Read more about the Artist’s Inspiration behind “River City”:
“This skyline scene juxtaposes the old and the new. Historical buildings like The Old Supreme Court to the right of the artwork have been dwarfed by shiny new skyscrapers. From low shophouses to bedazzling skyscrapers, Singapore’s cityscape has been constantly evolving over the past 50 years – and it still continues today.
Traditional Chinese wave motifs have been added to the foreground to reflect on Singapore’s history as a River City.
The photograph used in this artwork was taken from the Padang, an open playing field which was gazetted as a national monument in 2019.”
